Madam Speaker: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the U.S. Speaker of the House (September 9– 13th, 2019)
This week, the Capitol was back in session after a busy August District Work Period where House Members held town halls and thousands of events in their home districts. On Tuesday, the Speaker joined the Congressional Black Caucus to observe 400 years since the first recorded forced arrival of enslaved Africans in Jamestown, and to reaffirm the Congress’s commitment to fighting the injustices of the past as we build a better future for all. The following day, Members of Congress came together to honor the fallen heroes and victims of the September 11 terrorists attacks with a moment of silence on the Capitol steps. This week, she also welcomed to the Capitol Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin of the Cherokee Nationa and the United Teachers of Miami Dade.
