Madam Speaker: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the U.S. Speaker of the House

On Monday, Madam Speaker wore purple and joined Members of Congress for a photo as part a Congressional Day of Action combatting substance abuse and supporting mental health awareness. Tuesday, Madam Speaker joined House Democrats, the League of Conservation Voters, Climate Power and other climate activists for a press event highlighting critical provisions in the Build Back Better Act that tackle the climate crisis, address environmental justice and invest in America’s clean energy future.
Wednesday, Speaker Pelosi held a virtual meeting with His Excellency Tadamori Ōshima, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, to discuss shared interest in bilateral and multilateral cooperation on COVID response and recovery, Indo-Pacific security, and advancing human rights and democratic principals. Later that morning, Speaker Pelosi met with Wu-Er Kaixi, General Secretary, Taiwan Parliamentary Human Rights Commission and that afternoon, welcomed the family of Woody Harrelson to the United States Capitol. Wednesday night, Madam Speaker joined President Biden, bipartisan and bicameral Members of Congress and the greater community for this year’s Congressional Baseball Game at Nationals Park.
Thursday morning, Madam Speaker hosted her weekly press conference at the United States Capitol Visitor Center. That afternoon, Speaker Pelosi joined House Democrats for a bill enrollment ceremony for H.R. 5305, the Extending Government Funding and Delivering Emergency Assistance Act, which keeps government open through December 3rd. Friday, Madam Speaker joined bipartisan Members of Congress on the National Mall for a moment of silence marking 700,000 lives lost to COVID-19 at artist Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg’s “In America: Remember” installation. Later, Madam Speaker welcomed President Biden to the Capitol to speak with House Democrats on the Build Back Better Agenda.
