Madam Speaker: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the U.S. Speaker of the House
(May 30–June 5, 2021)
Tuesday, Madam Speaker joined San Francisco Mayor London Breed for the lighting of the 26th Annual Pink Triangle on the first night of LGBTQ Pride month. This event commemorates LGBTQ victims of the Holocaust who were forced to wear the Pink Triangle — a symbol that now serves as a beacon of hope in the movement for full equality. On Thursday, Madam Speaker volunteered at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank and highlighted how the American Rescue Plan is helping to feed communities across the country. That same day, Madam Speaker’s interview with Mika Brzezinski, as part of the release of Know Your Value and Forbes’ “50 over 50” list, aired. Friday, Madam Speaker participated in a virtual round table with members of the Latino community to discuss the disproportionate economic and health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Latino community. The Speaker also attended a memorial service for the late Anne Halsted, one of the great civic leaders in the San Francisco Bay Area. Saturday, Madam Speaker participated in the National AIDS Memorial Grove AIDS Pandemic 40th Anniversary Commemoration and Wreath Laying Ceremony at Golden Gate Park.
