On Monday, Madam Speaker joined House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries, Chairwoman Nydia Velázquez, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke and members of New York City’s labor movement to discuss investments in our nation’s infrastructure. On Tuesday, she joined the House Democratic Women’s Caucus, Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh and equal pay advocates for a press conference on Equal Pay Day.

On Wednesday, the Speaker welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a virtual address to Congress. She later held a virtual bilateral meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola before joining the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus to mark one year since eight Georgians were murdered in an act of bigotry. In the afternoon, Madam Speaker and House Democrats held a bill enrollment ceremony for the Emmett Till Antilynching Act.

On Thursday, Madam Speaker held her weekly press conference before enrolling the Postal Service Reform Act. For St. Patrick’s Day, she hosted the Annual Friends of Ireland Luncheon with President Biden in the Rayburn Room and attended a holiday reception at the White House.

Take a look at this week’s behind-the-scenes content:

March 14

“We always talk about helping people survive very well. But we want more than survival. We want success for people.”

“Democrats know that when women succeed, America succeeds. The Democratic House has twice passed Chair Rosa DeLauro’s Paycheck Fairness Act, most recently last April, which will strengthen and modernize the Equal Pay Act so that America’s women are empowered to take home every dollar they have earned.”

March 16

“In the face of Russia’s cruel and unprovoked invasion, the President’s fearless, heroic leadership has rallied his nation and inspired the entire world. And our Members were very moved by his powerful remarks today — as well as the heart-wrenching footage he shared showing Putin’s inhumane terror, brutally committing war crimes against children.”

“Our AAPI communities have long been subjected to hateful violence — and this crisis has surged during the pandemic. With the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, Congress took historic action to continue combating racist violence, stamping out hate and holding offenders accountable.”
“Nearly seven decades later, the lynching of Emmett Till is seared into America’s collective memory. Tragically, bigoted violence is not yet a relic of the past: from the scourge of police brutality to assaults on houses of worship and more. Democrats will continue combating hate whenever and wherever it arises — because it is an attack on our democracy’s basic promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

March 17

“This is a cherished occasion for us. It is a tradition that was started by Tip O’Neill and Ronald Reagan, when Ronald Reagan was President. We’re grateful to the Friends of Ireland Caucus led by co-Chair Richie Neal. We’re especially grateful to be celebrating the Feast of Saint Patrick with an Irish American President of the United States.”
“This historic, bipartisan legislation will strengthen the Postal Service: lifting the financial burdens, giving them more predictability for small businesses, more reliable service for families, more secure future for postal workers. Congress is honoring our duty to ensure that the Postal Service remains a pillar of our democracy.”
