During this week’s work period, Madam Speaker travelled across the country highlighting Democrats’ work to Build a Better America. On Monday, she joined Representative Colin Allred in Texas for a roundtable on the American Rescue Plan and House Democrats’ efforts to lower health care costs for working families. On Tuesday, she visited the LBJ Presidential Library for a discussion on the state of democracy at home and abroad.

On Wednesday, Madam Speaker joined a press event in Austin, Texas with Representative Lloyd Doggett, health leaders and medical students to mark the 12th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act. On Thursday, she returned to San Francisco for a roundtable with domestic violence survivors, experts and advocates to celebrate the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. And on Friday, Madam Speaker, Representative Barbara Lee, former U.S. Treasurer Rosie Rios, former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown and Bay Area community leaders celebrated the launch of the American Women Quarters Program — which began this year by featuring Maya Angelou, the first Black woman on the United States quarter.
